Nowadays, the terms "smart city" and "smart lighting" are very popular, and almost everyone has realized or mentioned them. The so-called smart lighting is to provide people with more convenience and better use conditions. It is basically to provide services for people. So what is the ultimate demand for lighting? When people's demand for lighting is met, what additional value can lighting design add? To address these two issues, the Anhui Province Urban Lighting Summit Forum Professor Li Nong from Beijing University of Technology talked about the following two aspects.
American psychologist Abraham Maslow proposed in the paper "The Theory of Human Motivation" in 1943. Human needs are divided into five types from low to high like a ladder: physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, respect needs and self-realization needs. This is what people need for society. So what do people need for lighting? As a result, Professor Li Nong launched a research on people’s needs for lighting. Professor Li Nong called this research "the theory of human lighting needs." The research results show that: Lighting needs are also divided into five levels. They are: safety requirements, efficiency requirements, comfort requirements, aesthetic requirements and value requirements.
The minimum requirement for lighting is the safety requirement, which is to protect people from physical harm during activities. This is the most basic requirement. When the most basic requirements are met, the second level is the need for efficiency. Whether it is work, traffic flow, people flow, etc., all begin to pursue efficiency. The third requirement is the comfort requirement, which means that in addition to being able to see the environment clearly and working normally, we also want to be able to stay in this environment for a longer time and be more comfortable. The fourth level of needs is aesthetic needs. The two primary needs are basically physiological requirements, the fourth level rises to the psychological level, and the third level is a transition from physical to psychological needs. stage. The highest demand is value demand, which is to obtain additional value beyond lighting.
Actually doing indoor and outdoor artistic lighting is doing the fourth level of demand. The index requirements proposed by various national lighting standards are limited to the bottom three levels. Outdoor lighting standards basically meet the lowest level of standards, that is, safety requirements. Indoor lighting requirements mainly require effects, quantitative indicators, and quality indicators. The quality indicators control comfort requirements. Outdoor artistic lighting and landscape lighting are aesthetic needs, which means that they should look pleasing to the eye, which is a psychological need. The highest level needs are spiritual needs, spiritual pleasure. Therefore, the two highest levels are the so-called artistic lighting category, one is to solve the psychological needs, and the other is to solve the spiritual needs.
Professor Li Nong would like to emphasize that the requirement of these five levels is that the upper level covers the next level, which means that the second level must cover the first level, and the third level must cover the next two levels.Second, the added value of lighting After three months of research, Professor Li Nong concluded that the ultimate demand for lighting is value demand. Value demand covers two aspects: material and spiritual. Specifically: the spiritual level is mainly manifested in the form of human values; in the material aspect, its value can be embodied in the economic, practical, information and other specific value forms. In other words, to pursue the highest level of so-called lighting, or to meet the highest requirements of human needs, can be provided from the perspective of added value.
1. Humanistic value

India Pavilion at Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan
From the perspective of lighting methods, everyone thinks it is very simple, it is silhouette lighting, but the tree it chooses is a typical Indian linden tree, so whether it is day or night, as long as you see it, you will think of India, which means that the lighting directly The characteristics of India are expressed, conveying the so-called humanistic value.
2、economic value

Huaian Wisdom Valley Science Park Building
This is part of the building lighting made by Professor Li Nong for the Huai'an Wisdom Valley Science and Technology Park. It uses a point light source and spells a HA. HA is the abbreviation of Huai'an, and then decorates the wall through composition to serve as a broad advertising Role to promote the city. Through the practice of night scene lighting, it is equivalent to providing it with free advertising. In addition to making it beautiful, it also adds an economic value.

Huaian Wisdom Valley Science Park Building
This is another building in Wisdom Valley. This is the building on the right side of the main entrance. Here, Professor Li Nong made an Internet symbol e, because this is a high-tech industrial park. The key point is that it is another Clock, through the movement of dots and color changes, one is the hour hand and the other is the minute hand. Because this is the entrance, people who commute to and from get off work often have the need to watch the watch, so a function is added to it here-clock, which reflects a practical value.
4. Information value

Yunnan Tobacco Corporation Office Building
This is the lighting for the office building of Yunnan Tobacco Corporation that Professor Li Nong once did, and it also uses point light sources. The lower side of the building is yellow, the middle is white, and the upper is red. It is a lit cigarette: the bottom is a cigarette butt, the middle is a cigarette stick, and the top is a cigarette butt. Then a tobacco leaf is added, which can be dynamically illuminated, so It can be the same on all four sides, it can also have tobacco leaves on one side at a certain time, or it can have other patterns. In addition to landscape lighting, one can think of the building of a tobacco company at first glance, so it adds another value-information value.
In general, the landscape lighting has become beautiful. This is the prerequisite. On this basis, we need to think about adding some additional value to customers. In the future design of lighting designers, some blind and passive things should be turned into active ones, so as to meet the ultimate needs of customers, whether on the spiritual or material level. The core sentence is to design well, keep up with the trend, master theories, combine practice, continuously improve yourself, and create great achievements.
